ICT Short Courses – Summer Term 2013

The ICT Curriculum Team will be offering a number of ICT Short Courses during the Summer Term aimed at teachers who are new to using Apple Mac computer systems (Mac OS X). All schools will be e-mailed with the information, but in case you miss the e-mail, here is a copy of the details!

Primary and Special Schools

Introduction to the Apple Mac Computer (Part 1)
25th June 2013 9:00-3:30, or
26th June 2013 9:00-3:30 (repeat of 25th June)

Introduction to the Apple Mac (Part 2)
9th July 2013 9:00-3:30, or
10th July 2013 9:00-3:30 (repeat of 9th July)

Secondary Schools

Introduction to the Apple Mac Computer
27th June 2013 9:00-3:30

Introduction to the Apple Mac (Part 2)
11th July 2013 9:00-3:30

Venue
ICT Training Room at the Education Effectiveness Service (YGG Bryn Tawe)

These courses are aimed at teachers who are new to using Apple Mac computer systems. You will be introduced to the following aspects of the Mac Operating System (OS X):

  • Learning the language of the Mac (e.g. Mac Trash instead of Recycle Bin)
  • Keyboard differences from PC (e.g. Command Key instead of Control Key)
  • The Finder (equivalent to Windows Explorer)
  • The Mac Dock
  • Configuring the computer for personal use
  • Connecting to the network and internet
  • Creating folders
  • Loading and saving files
  • An overview of iBooks Author

In Part 2, you will cover:

  • Mapping drives
  • Mac Apps
  • Sharing files
  • Creating Aliases (Shortcuts on Windows)
  • Equivalent Apps to those you might commonly use on a PC
  • iLife Suite in detail (Pages, Numbers and Keynote)
  • Q&A session

Please note that due to health and safety requirements, there is a maximum limit of 12 participants for any course held at the Education Effectiveness Service ICT Training Room.

Course participants are requested to park in the Leisure Centre car park as you will not be permitted to park on the school premises. You will then need to obtain a Visitor Pass from the main school reception at YGG Bryn Tawe before being directed to the Education Effectiveness Service building.
